I've been working crazy hours, my wife is at work for a special event, and my daughter is out shopping with friends. I have a quiet house.

I'm a tinkerer at heart, so my idea of relaxing was taking apart my semi-automatic espresso maker and cleaning the grinder. It's a Gaggia Brera, remarkably well thought out. Hopefully now it'll stop being confused and thinking it's out of beans when there's a hopper full.

I have a test espresso in front of me, turned out better than before, so there's a win.

Time to go relax in the back yard, my gardener came yesterday and trimmed back a couple of overgrown trees - and blew all the leaves in the process.

Monday is going to start at 0500 with a call to the folks in Paris. One of the perks of the project I'm working on is knowing that when it's over, the headquarters will be in *my* time zone!

I sometimes do stuff like that when I have time to myself too. And it's good to feel like you've accomplished something.

We have Delonghi super-automatic (Costco version, from when they were selling it) - it makes incredible capuccinos. My wife maintains the machine because she'd probably die without it. :-)

It's very similar to this model and although it requires attentive maintenance, ours has lasted a few years already and is working perfectly still:

Yeah, I've had this unit for 4 years now, the grinder wasn't too badly gummed up, considering I prefer oily Vienna Roast beans. I usually pull a double, my wife gets a triple nonfat latte, no foam for her commute and my daughter has started making iced espressos with some cold foam she discovered on TikTok.

I thought about getting a separate espresso/grinder combo but I'd end up too far down the rabbit hole shopping for portafilters, scales, tampers, aerators, and so on. Prefer getting 80% of the experience by pushing a button.
